Join Langtree PTA

The next PTA meeting will be

Tuesday 19th September 7.30pm

at The Highwayman in Checkendon

Everyone is welcome.  We will discuss some exciting events for next year’s calendar so we can raise even more money to give back to our school and help all our children.

Wow what a whirlwind 6 months the new PTA Committee has had!
At the first meeting in mid January there were lots of new faces and many good ideas for forthcoming events.
The PTA has continued to run the bar and refreshments at school events put on by the Music, Drama and Art Departments when required.
The PTA set about organising a Quiz Night for March which was a tremendous success with over 150 people filling the school hall and much hilarity had by all who came and a wonderful £2,300 was raised.
On Prom night the PTA ran a bar and BBQ for parents who had gathered at Goring & Streatley Golf Club, this was a new event which received very positive feedback from those that attended.  This is something we hope to run next year, so watch this space.
At the next PTA meeting it was decided to run a summer event so the committee got to work on organising the ‘Summer Sizzler’ which took place last Friday.  It was a lovely sunny evening and again there was much laughter with some of the games that had been set-up.  Thank you to all who helped in many ways make this a fun end to the year.
With all this fundraising the aim is to save some of the money for larger school projects whilst still donating smaller amounts to individual departments so all students can benefit from your support.  This year the PTA has donated £300 for Student Rewards, and £1500 split evenly between the Music, Drama and Food Tech departments.

summer sizzlerNotes from previous meetings
The meeting reviewed the recent events that  the PTA have run a bar at, which have gone well.
Fun Quiz night
The evening was a great success and enjoyed by all there. With over 150 tickets sold the hall was full and the quiz master & scorer with their various hats led the evening. Every one entered the spirit of the  evening to have fun including recognizable quiz rounds to constructing newspaper towers, trying to track down flags of the world were all part of the fun. The quiz committee thanked everyone for their help to organise the evening
The quiz made  over £2300  – thanks to all who came and made the evening such a success
Future Events
Friday 14th July – Summer Sizzler –  Tickets £5,  Competitive fun & games, Bar & BBQ
This is our summer fund raiser so please book your tickets for what is promising to be a great social fun evening.
There are a number of school events coming up that the PTA will be running a bar at.
It was agreed that once there is enough of a contingency in the bank account  then we would save some of the events profits for larger projects, whilst  supporting smaller items more regularly which the students will benefit from immediately
£300 has been donated towards student rewards.
More donations to be made soon – look out for how we are helping all our children.
pta quiz puddingNotes from the last meeting – Tues 7th February:
This meeting was focused on future events, starting with the drama performance of Snow Dragons on 27th & 28th February. Volunteers for shopping beforehand and manning the bar on both evenings were arranged. The next bar is for the Concert/art exhibition on 29th March.
Fun Quiz – Friday 24th March – The sub committee reported that arrangements are going well. Tickets are on sale at £5 from the school office or committee members, please could everyone promote the event & sell tickets – this is the first main event for the new committee and they want as many as possible to come and enjoy the evening whilst raising money.
A number of possible future events were discussed, more details to be brought to the next meeting
School wish list – it was agreed that a donation towards the students rewards would be made.

Langtree School Association – PTA

What is the PTA?

The Langtree School Association a registered charity (Charity No 281545) and is run by parent and carers with a child/ren at Langtree School in Woodcote. All parents and carers are entitled and welcome to attend meetings.

The charity objectives are:

To advance the education of the pupils of the school by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities for education at the school (not normally provided by the Local Education Authority)

Who are we?

We are a group of parents and carers who want to help the children of the school wherever we can. There are three elected officer;

Chairman        Diana Hathaway        dhathaway192@gmail.com

Secretary         Viv Woods                 viv@cholsey.com

Treasurer        Liz Nicoll

In addition to the elected officers we have a larger general committee made up of parents and carers who attend meetings and help organise and run various fund raising events. All parent and carers are entitled and welcome to attend meetings.

What does the PTA do?

The PTA organises a number of social and fund raising activities throughout the year as well as providing refreshments at school functions where required.

Donations are made to school whenever possible be it for something small but important like student rewards or a larger project we may be working towards for a while.

If there is anything that you would like to see us doing or organising please let us know.

How can I get involved?

The best way is to come along to one of the meetings. You will find us a friendly bunch (usually) who are trying to provide that little bit extra for all of the Langtree pupils. It is a great way to meet other parents and like your children make new friends.

Meetings are normally held in a local pub.

We are always looking for new ideas and if you are unable to make the meeting we are always happy to hear from you by phone, email or via Facebook.

There are many ways you can get involved, from helping out occasionally front of house or in the background or would you like to come and run an event with the support of the committee or anything in between –  there is something for everyone – it is up to you!

All are welcome – it would be great to meet you.

Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 acted as hosts to over 70 guests, who were treated to a high tea, a musical cabaret, and a raffle. The raffle  prizes were donated by local businesses, we are grateful to: The Highwayman – Checkendon, The Woody Nook – Woodcote, Kimberley’s Hair Studio – Woodcote, The Cooperative – Woodcote, The Red Lion – Woodcote, Albert Fields Hair Salon – Goring, Goring Hardware and Woodcote Garden Centre for the wonderful raffle prizes. The event concluded with carol singing as a celebration of Christmas.
