Message from the Chair of Governors

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

First of all, a warm welcome back to all our students, and their families. We hope you’ve all had a good summer and feel (almost!) ready for the new school year. In particular, a big welcome to the new Year 7’s just arriving at Langtree – we hope you will soon settle in and feel an important part of our school.

As you may have seen in the local press, the GCSE results for last year’s Year 11’s were received just a few weeks ago, and the results were really terrific, despite all the uncertainties with the new-style exams, so hopefully you will find that the teachers at Langtree are now all smiling again! We are very proud of our ‘Class of 2018’, and look forward to congratulating them in person at the Langtree Presentation Evening in November.

But for now, as we begin this new school year, I wanted to take a moment to convey my sincere thanks to our Acting Headteacher, Mr Simon Bamford, as he takes the helm following the departure of Rick Holroyd in the summer. For those who didn’t know Rick, he had been Langtree’s enormously successful head for the past 13 years, so we are going to miss him – but we are already looking forward to the new term under Simon’s leadership, supported by our Acting Deputy Head, Ms Sarah Burman, and the school’s senior leadership team. We know that they are going to be brilliant!

I also wanted to bring everyone up to speed with the progress made towards recruiting a new permanent Headteacher, because over the summer break the Governors have been very busy! We are planning to advertise this position nationally within the first half of September, and to hold interviews around the middle of October. This timeframe could (in principle) allow us to recruit a new Headteacher effective from January 2019 – but this would be dependent on a lot of things. In the meantime, as far as Langtree School students are concerned, it will be ‘business as usual’ – but with more visitors looking around, especially on the interview days. However, we will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum.

We will aim to keep everyone informed as best we can – but for now, I wish everyone at Langtree a great start to the new school year.

Jan Seal-Roberts
