Dear Parents / Carers of students at Langtree School
As I’m sure most of you know, we have been fortunate to have had Mr Rick Holroyd as the Headteacher of Langtree School for more than 13 years – and he has done a truly outstanding job throughout this time.
However, Rick has recently been offered a new role as the head of King Alfred’s School in Wantage which, after careful consideration, he is now planning to accept with effect from September 2018. King Alfred’s is a large school (currently 1700 on role, including a sixth-form) requiring a dynamic new head to take them forward – and I hope you will agree that they have made a terrific appointment in Rick!
I appreciate that this news will be unsettling for many people, especially parents and students. However, Rick has given so much to Langtree over the years, very often going over and above what might reasonably be expected of a Headteacher – and it therefore seems fitting that we should celebrate with him, however sad the prospect of losing him might make us feel as a school community.
Of course, Rick’s forthcoming departure will give us all a lot to think about. However, I would like to assure everyone at this early stage that the Governors and Senior Leadership Team, supported by all the staff of the school, will be doing our very best to ensure that everything continues positively and purposefully in accordance with the strong traditions of Langtree – and Rick has already assured me of his total commitment towards achieving a smooth and relatively seamless transition.
There will naturally be more news to share in the coming months, but for now I would like to thank you for your ongoing support of Langtree School, its staff and its Governing Body, as we all begin to consider future possibilities and work towards a new chapter for the school.
With warm regards,
Chair of Governors
